About Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich are the most successful club in German football history, with over 30 Bundesliga titles, six Champions League trophies, and an international fanbase that rivals any club in the world. The Allianz Arena in northern Munich, with its luminous exterior panels that glow red on matchday, is one of the most iconic stadiums in Europe.
For visiting fans, Bayern offer a well-run matchday experience. The Südkurve is the heartbeat of the ground, where the ultras drive the atmosphere, but even the upper tiers deliver a spectacle. Ticket availability varies: mid-table Bundesliga games are manageable with 2 to 3 weeks notice, but Champions League knockouts and Der Klassiker against Dortmund sell out within hours.
Munich itself is one of Germany's most attractive cities for tourists. The Marienplatz, English Garden, and beer hall culture (Hofbräuhaus, Augustiner) give you plenty to fill a non-matchday. The city is also the gateway to Bavaria: Augsburg, Nuremberg, and Fürth are all within 90 minutes by train, making Munich an ideal base for a multi-game trip.
For tickets, Bayern sit at the difficult end of the Bundesliga spectrum. You should expect the easiest access on lower-demand league fixtures and the toughest access on Dortmund, Leverkusen, European knockout, and season run-in games. If you are travelling internationally, it is safer to build the trip around a Bayern home game that is attractive but not among the highest-demand fixtures, then add Augsburg, Nürnberg, Fürth, or 1860 Munich around it rather than chasing one blockbuster fixture that may never reach general sale.
The Allianz Arena itself rewards arriving early. Fröttmaning station is efficient but busy, the esplanade builds atmosphere well before kick-off, and the stadium tour or club museum are worth using on a non-matchday if Bayern are the main stop in your itinerary. Munich works best as either a long weekend base or the southern start of a wider route that continues to Augsburg, Stuttgart, or Frankfurt by ICE.
