Football in Stuttgart

Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-Württemberg and home to VfB Stuttgart, five-time Bundesliga champions with a proud tradition and a passionate Swabian fanbase. The Mercedes-Benz Arena in the Neckarpark sits alongside the Cannstatter Wasen festival grounds, Stuttgart's version of Oktoberfest, held every autumn.

The Cannstatter Kurve standing section drives the atmosphere, and VfB's Champions League return in 2024/25 brought renewed energy to the club. Stuttgart has a strong football culture. The club is embedded in the city's identity in a way that few German clubs outside the Ruhr can match.

Stuttgart's hilltop geography (the city sits in a valley basin surrounded by vineyards) gives it a unique character among German football cities. The Stäffele, hundreds of outdoor staircases connecting neighbourhoods, are a local institution. For trips, Freiburg (80 min by ICE), Mannheim (40 min), Karlsruhe (50 min), and Augsburg (90 min) are all within range.
